The Dresden-based Novaled AG is one of the companies that has paved the way for organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). Novaled is a global leader when it comes to the brightness, life cycle, and low energy consumption of its OLEDs.+

Saxony is the German federal state with the most remarkable developments and achievements in organic and printed electronics. The companies and institutions in the region cover the entire value creation chain from fundamental research all the way to high end technical products. Around 40 companies, 3 universities, 10 research institutes and 4 networks are active in this future oriented high tech field.

Dresden and Chemnitz are world-wide recognized hubs of excellent development work in the field of organic and printed electronics.

In Dresden, the Fraunhofer Society has Germany’s highest concentration of high tech institutes: The “All Silicon Systems Integration Dresden – ASSID” center is working on 3D silicon integration for future microelectronic products. The “Center for Organic Materials and Electronic Devices Dresden” (COMEDD) is conducting research on organic semiconductor components, light emitting diodes, and solar cells.

In Chemnitz, the Smart Systems Campus is a highly focused, extensive technology park in the immediate vicinity of the Chemnitz University of Technology, the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Electronic Nano Systems (ENAS) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU).

Energy saving chips, displays, and sensors are being developed by the Cool Silicon cluster which unites more than 60 commercial enterprises and research institutes under its roof.
